Double WAN performance

Post by Rina7RS »

ASUS RT_AX86U Pro – Wireless Network Test – 2.4GHz – WiFi 6 and WiFi 5 Client Devices – Upstream.

Dual-WAN has been a feature of most ASUS routers for years now, and yes, it’s available on the RT-AX86U Pro too. It’s not enabled by default, so head to the web interface, select WAN under Advanced Settings, and click Dual WAN. Then enable Dual WAN, select Primary WAN and Secondary WAN. You can see that all ports are available, including a USB port where you can insert a Wi-Fi card.

Next, next to Dual WAN mode, you can choose whether the colombia telegram data connection is configured to load balance between the two connections or if you prefer Fail Over+FailBack. I chose the latter and set the trigger condition to 1 second for this test. I then opened two cmd windows and continuously pinged two websites. As you can see, it took about 4 tries to switch the connection to the secondary WAN after the primary one went down.

After I reconnected the cable to the main WAN, it took about three tries to get the connection back. This is decent performance for home use, so if you need faster switching and more options for connecting to multiple WANs, there is better equipment, albeit more expensive.

Mobile application
Yes, the ASUS RT-AX86U Pro can be configured and managed via a mobile app. And while not all the advanced features are available, you get almost all the features you need. The home page displays the most important network status information (just swipe the circular section), as well as the AiMesh status, and there’s a shortcut to enter mobile gaming mode. This way, you can optimize your smartphone connection for the lowest possible latency (basically, QoS prioritization).
