New optoelectronic copackaging technology could replace electrical interconnects russia phone number list in data centers, significantly improving the speed and energy efficiency of AI and other computing applications

HONG KONG , Dec. 16, PRNewswire IBM NYSE: IBM today announced breakthrough research in optical technology that has the potential to significantly improve the efficiency of training and running generative AI models in data centers. The nextgeneration copackaged optics CPO process developed by IBM researchers uses optical technology to achieve lightspeed connections within data centers , providing a powerful supplement to existing shortdistance optical cables. By designing and assembling the first announced polymer optical waveguide PWG, IBM researchers have demonstrated how optoelectronic copackaging will redefine the computing industry's highbandwidth data transfer between chips, circuit boards and servers.

Today, fiber optic technology has been widely used for highspeed data transmission over long distances, enabling the use of light instead of electricity to manage almost all commercial and communication transmissions around the world. Although the external communication network of the data center has adopted optical fiber, the racks inside it still mainly use copper wires for communication.
