LUXURY FIRMS ARE HOLDING BACK ONLINE COMMERCE

Post by asimd23 »

According to Bloomberg, luxury goods group LVMH and Channel have succeeded in getting the European Union to modify the draft that regulated e-commerce to impose a series of restrictions on the online sale of luxury brands.

The major luxury brands have declared war on online retailers bank data to prevent brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton , Dior , Loewe and DKNY from being sold without limits on the web.

LVHM, the group that includes brands such as Dior, Loewe, YSL and Louis Vuitton, has claimed that the companies that manufacture these luxury products that are sold online are investing heavily to buy premises in the most sought-after commercial areas in the world, so that online sales are damaging their business.

In addition, some cosmetics and perfume manufacturers have claimed that online commerce damages the image of large firms by reducing their exclusivity.

Karl Lagerfeld, designer of the house , successfully defended these arguments on February 11 before the European Commissioner for Competition, Neelie Kroes. In response to this, the online marketing company eBay urged the European Commission on Tuesday to put an end to the 'abuses' that the big brands are exercising against digital commerce and has started a campaign to collect signatures.
