The French feel a sense of uselessness of information with more than a third of those questioned believing that this information is not useful to them in their daily lives.

The notion of truthfulness of information and expertise is also important to them, with 48% of them wanting fact-checking on the information circulating on the pandemic, and 45% expecting expert advice on health issues from specialists.
The French want to be better informed about climate change
As climate issues become more and more pressing, the French are demanding information on these issues . Even though 61% of French people feel sufficiently informed about climate change, only 11% consider themselves fully informed on the subject. On the other hand, 35% of them consider that they are not sufficiently informed by the media on this subject.
A real need for information therefore remains to be met. 53% of French people believe that the media do not give enough space to the questions raised by climate change, a percentage that has been increasing since the start of the health crisis. In terms of expectations and editorial line, the observation is relatively similar to that which can be made on the pandemic: the French find the journalistic treatment of climate change too anxiety-provoking (35%), catastrophic (33%) and moralizing (25%).
The latter are still waiting for constructive information proposing solutions to combat global warming (51%) and for them to be the subject of verification (42%).
Finally, 58% of French people indicate that if they knew about a media outlet's commitments to limit its impact on the environment, they would tend to consume it more to the detriment of another outlet that is less respectful of its ecological footprint. The media would therefore have everything to gain by adapting their editorial line (and their production methods) to climate change.
Disinformation in times of crisis
Faced with these different issues, the media then face the underlying challenges of the veracity of information. Six out of ten French people believe that journalists are not sufficiently equipped, or do not have sufficient scientific culture , to provide scientifically reliable information.
We therefore call for a higher level of expertise for the subjects covered with a usefulness deemed important by the French of the words of experts (whether for the climate emergency at 77% or for the health crisis at 72%).
