Regaining technical sovereignty to create more secure and accessible digital systems
Technologists advocate the democratization gambling data spainof power, but users understand less and less the tools they feel captive to and the use that foreign companies make of their personal data. This is why Jean-Jacques Valette speaks of "data sovereignty on a French scale", of the need to free ourselves from the clouds held by GAFAM and to make technical and material know-how more accessible to users.
" Mastery of technology is a political power of independence," he says.
Two courses of action are required. First, get closer to open source, for example by using WordPress software . Jean-Jacques Valette emphasizes the importance of "using the tools that you master so that one day the host cannot cut the site." In addition, open source software adapts better to accessibility issues (for example related to censorship or vision problems) than proprietary software .
You can also choose to host your data in France rather than abroad, with a company like Google. Jean-Jacques Valette highlights the work of the CHATONS collective (Collective of alternative, transparent, open, neutral and supportive hosts) which builds local responsibility links between suppliers, technology services and customers. "It's like a data AMAP - we would know people with whom we host our data."
