Having high search engine pageviews doesn't mean much if you have a high bounce rate. If people are leaving your site, it means they're not converting.

You may be asking yourself - I have great content and amazing products. Why don't people stay?

Well, it could be your user experience. If your site is confusing, complicated, or messy, there's a good chance people will leave.

In this article, we'll look at some common UX issues and how to fix them . First, let's talk about bounce rate and what it means.

What is bounce rate?
Many people think that when someone comes to your site and quickly leaves, it is considered a bounce, but this is only partially true.

Google treats single-page sessions, where the visitor does nothing but leave, as bounces. Time on page is recorded as zero seconds because the visitor has not taken any other action that would signal Google bots to help record the time.

So how is bounce rate calculated?

The bounce rate for your web page (or your entire site) is the total number of visits to one page divided by all visits.

Let's say a particular landing page was visited 200 times in a day. Of those 200 visits, 50 took another action on your site. They clicked on your CTA, watched a video, signed up for your newsletter, or clicked on something in your navigation bar .

This means that the other 150 left without doing anything, leaving you with an average bounce rate of 75% .

Depending on your industry and the purpose of your site, your bounce rate may be quite high - or it may be about average.
