1) Do not use standard patterns/templates
Most of them are just ugly and look like from a previous era. They do not fit into today's trends at all, they are not pleasant to look at. Instead, spend some time to prepare your own slide master. Be unique.

2) Use nice fonts
Standard fonts have the tendency to be familiar to everyone, so they don't arouse interest. It's even worse if you use the hated Comic Sans. Attract attention with a nice font, such as the free Polish Lato. You'll see for yourself what a huge difference the appearance of the letters makes.
