the primer, penetrating into the pores, fills them, which saves other applied materials (the surface of the gypsum board after treatment with primer cannot absorb putty, paint or glue);
when polymerized (hardened), the primer creates a strong frame on the surface of the gypsum board, which is able to withstand almost any vertical load, which is very important when finishing walls with porcelain tiles;
the putty is not able to create the same absorption capacity on the surface of the gypsum board, as a result of which uneven layers remain after painting;
the primer does not limit the vapor permeability of the walls - it resembles more a network of threads, rather than a continuous film through which moisture cannot pass;
substances that prevent the growth of fungi and mold are added to the primer, which is important for damp rooms;
thanks to the primer, plasterboard can be used under tiles in the car owner data and kitchen, where there is high humidity;
Water-dispersible acrylic-based primers are completely harmless to health.
Having studied all the pros and cons, let's try to figure out whether it is necessary to prime drywall before puttying.
Let's note right away that both sides do not always give correct arguments. For example, the argument that primers are toxic is not entirely true in our case. In fact, most types of primers are very harmful to human health. But they are intended only for outdoor work, as there is a warning on the packaging.
Also wrong is the assertion of priming supporters that without a primer the surface of the gypsum board absorbs paint differently - the finishing putty has polymer additives that close the pores of the gypsum board, as a result of which the absorption capacity is the same over the entire surface.
In general, both sides justify their position with statements that have a right to exist, which explains the existence of opposing points of view. In the current situation, the truth, as always, is somewhere in the middle.
Is it necessary to prime the plasterboard before puttying?
Relying only on the arguments of supporters and opponents of priming drywall before puttying, it is impossible to draw unambiguous conclusions in favor of one of the parties. In practice, there are situations when a primer must be used without fail, and there are situations when there is no need for it.
Thanks to the primer,The adhesion between the drywall and the putty increases;
