As if from a sudden desire, one becomes a giant on a global level
We all know Netflix , especially in the last year it has kept us company every night, if not all day every day. In fact, it has exceeded 200 million subscribers in the past year, when, instead, in 2019 it reached around 9 million.
Luckily, they invented it, otherwise we would be playing Monopoly and Guess Who every night.
But who invented Netflix and above all how did this successful idea come about? Certainly not with a stroke of genius, as the author of the book “ It will never work” and founder of the technology giant Marc Randolph explains .
An entrepreneur and investor, he worked at Silicon Valley until one day he decided he no longer wanted to be employed by someone but to create something of his own.
Together with his friend, colleague and investor Reed buy phone number list Hastings they began to think about what could be sold online, but above all Reed suggested, what could generate a need in customers. In fact, marketing teaches us exactly this, create a need.
They thought of selling shampoo online, but it wasn't a very attractive product, they thought of video cassettes, just like they did with books, but even then, the postal delivery time would have been too long and the cost of the video cassettes was also too high.
They decided, therefore, to focus on a good not yet on the market except in Japan, DVDs. They were still unknown before 1997 and above all they had discovered that they would put them on the market at a reasonable price to ensure that people would begin to have the pleasure of collecting them just like CDs.
They realized they had the right intuition, but now they needed the financiers to build it and keep it going. Reed became the first, Marc, instead, offered his time and energy.
Marc becomes the first CEO of Netflix. Little by little his dream begins to come true, he is the founder of a start up.
The launch moment arrives, a crucial moment for every new company that comes into the world, on April 14, 1998. The June earnings exceed expectations, so much so that the servers are blocked. Netflix continues to grow exponentially, until in 2000, it suffers a collapse, rentals are blocked and subscriptions are no longer increasing. They absolutely must find a solution as quickly as possible, they find themselves without money just like in 1997, it was like going back in time, when they decided to implement this "crazy" idea.
