HTML documents are plain text files, usually saved with the extension “.html” or “.htm”, that can be written in any text editor.

Who created HTML?
HTML was created by British scientist Tim Berners-Lee while he was searching for a solution to facilitate collaboration between researchers located in different parts of the world. His solution was to develop a markup language that would allow documents to be made available in digital format and the possibility of creating links between different texts.

The Origin of HTML and the World Wide Web
The history of HTML is directly linked to the creation of the World Wide Web itself , also developed by Tim Berners-Lee. He was responsible for creating the HTTP ( HyperText Transfer Protocol ) protocol, which allows communication between browsers and servers and is essential for the functioning of the web.

In 1990, Berners-Lee released the first Web browser, along with an HTML editor, on the NeXT computer. The combination of these tools allowed documents to be linked together in a vast network of information, the World Wide Web .

The first HTML code was formally created in 1991 and since then it has undergone several evolutions to keep up with technological changes and user needs.

The first version was released in 2014 , and since then it has undergone some updates, the most recent being version 5.2, from 2017 .

The evolution of HTML has proven essential for improving the structuring and presentation of content on the web, eliminating dependence on external plugins, which often compromised security and compatibility.
