US Presidential Election - National Talk Show
This year, the US presidential election is not just a vote for the best candidate, but a national talk show. This became especially clear after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, when a bullet passed a millimeter from his head, shooting through his ear. Immediately after the shot, Trump raised his hand to the sky, as if demonstrating to the public that he was not afraid and intended to continue the election campaign.

The race became even more dramatic after the Democrats decided to change their candidate, and Kamala Harris took Joe Biden's place.

The denouement is coming soon, but for now the focus is on political merch. For Americans, it's not just T-shirts or mugs. Merch has the power to demonstrate the electorate's preferences, desires, and moods.

I studied dozens of articles: from the tabloids to The Washington Post, looked at catalogs with goods that depicted the candidates' symbols, looked at official stores. The conclusion that can be made: unlike many other countries, political merch is actively bought in America.

Free merch is handed out at meetings with voters, but it is not very high-quality products: flags, cheap T-shirts and caps, and, less often, ribbons. Its goal is to fill everything around so that there is no room for anything else.

But there is also more expensive merch: sweatshirts, mugs, bags. People buy quality products. They are not shy about "voting" with money for their preferences.

What merch is in the catalog of offers of both candidates? What do Trump and Harris offer? What is the difference and why do people buy merch? Let's figure it out.
