Social networking platform MySpace is closing a deal to acquire social media music recommendation service iLike, one of Facebook's most popular music apps; the move is part of a strategy to compete with the popular Facebook by becoming a more entertainment-oriented social portal.
iLike is a service launched in 2006 and currently has architect data more than 50 million registered users. It consists of a music recommendation service that suggests new bands or songs to users based on the tastes they show in their own music listening and that of their friends.
This app is currently the most popular music app on the Facebook and Bebo platforms, among others. With this acquisition, MySpace will become the owner of the music on some of the most popular sites on the web and will strengthen its position as a space for promoting musical groups.
