This was reported by JSC Selectel on Monday, November 18. The company launched a corporate-class server operating system (OS) based on Linux - SelectOS. It will ease the workload of IT specialists and technical support. The company intends to further develop the operating system.

told a ComNews correspondent that the company announced the development back in May 2024. According to him, testing of the development took six months, and the company's employees worked on it all this time.

"The Selectel OS was india telegram created on the basis of Linux, an open source operating system. Our team has significantly improved the product, creating a full-fledged corporate-class solution that is suitable for use by large corporations. This is a common practice and, in fact, an industrial standard. The OS from Selectel is highly reliable and secure, and also works well with the company's existing products," he noted.

Representatives of the press services of Yandex LLC (cloud storage Yandex Disk), MTS PJSC (cloud storage Vtoraya Pamyat), VK LLC (VK Cloud), Red Soft LLC (operating system RED OS) did not answer questions from a ComNews correspondent. A representative of the press service of Astra Group PJSC (developer of the Astra Linux operating system) declined to comment.

"Selectel takes a ready-made operating system and adds utilities to it to solve the applied problems facing the company," said Eldar Murtazin, a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group. "It has become fashionable to call any development an operating system, for example, a package of applied software. But they do not determine the development of the Linux kernel, do not have the competence at the level of deep modernization, fork support, etc. That is, in essence, this is Linux, to which tools are attached that allow it to be controlled remotely. However, this is proof that Selectel is developing and expanding its product line."

According to independent IT and telecom market expert Vadim Plesskiy, SelectOS is more of a declaration of intent than a ready-to-use product. He noted that creating a Linux distribution is a difficult but doable task. However, it is unclear why Selectel is developing an OS when there are four operating systems based on the Linux kernel and GNU libraries/utilities, presented in both server and desktop versions.
