QThere is less than a week left to know what the final fate of TikTok in the United States will be, and with the possibility that the Chinese social network will permanently leave the country, American users are looking for new alternatives to fill the void that this will leave.

Users move to Red Note and turn to Duolingo to understand it
Among these, Red Note stands out , a social network also of Chinese origin (known as Xiaohongshu in China) that is based on short videos, images and texts and whose main content falls into the lifestyle category . However, for the moment, the default language of the app is Mandarin Chinese and the majority of users are Chinese, so they use their language on the platform.

Red Note has recently experienced a huge moj database in downloads. In fact, between January 14 and 15, this social network rose 582 places in the ranking of app downloads, becoming the most downloaded app in the United States for both iOS and Android , according to data from Data.ai.

It seems that the language barriers Red Note presents have not been a deterrent for US users, and it has even been something that has been beneficial to another app: Duolingo . The language learning app has announced that the number of US users learning Mandarin Chinese has increased by 216% compared to the same period last year. Although the exact user numbers for both times have not been revealed, only the percentage increase.

Duolingo has not hesitated to link this large increase in US users interested in learning Mandarin with the growing use of Red Note and its testing as a possible alternative to TikTok. In fact, the language app has not hesitated to welcome “TikTok refugees” .

Lemon8 and Clapper, other platforms benefited
Other social networks that have also benefited are Lemon8 and Clapper, which are ranked as the second and ninth most downloaded apps in the country for iOS and Android. In the case of Lemon8 , this is a platform belonging to ByteDance , the parent company of TikTok itself. Lifestyle content is the protagonist in this social network that is reminiscent of a fusion between Instagram and Pinterest.

Clapper is a social network for short videos of up to 3 minutes and live broadcasts with an interface very similar to TikTok, which also includes a “radio” option with which to create rooms with up to 2,000 listeners in which up to 20 speakers can participate. In addition, it is very focused on community building, allowing you to create groups with your fans to interact directly with them.
