This weekend has been a busy one, and suddenly two of the most anticipated events by Internet users have arrived. On the one hand, the first trailer for Avengers 4 has been released (and we already know that it will be called Avengers 4: Endgame) and on the other, WordPress 5.0 “Bebo” (dedicated to the musician Bebo Valdés) is now available, which comes with the new Gutenberg editor .
In fact, the change shouldn't have come as a surprise to you because it has been announced for several months and anyone could install the Gutenberg plugin to test it before the update became mandatory.
This is Gutenberg WordPress
The big news in Gutenberg is that it replaces the old visual or HTML editing system with block editing. In other words, any page or post is built from blocks. There is a long list of blocks available: text blocks, header blocks, image blocks, blocks for inserting HTML…
On the other hand, the user interface is simplified, with a cleaner window (pleasant to look at, but sometimes difficult to find what you are looking for). Here is a sample of how Gutenberg works:
For people who are used to working with a builder, there won't be many problems adapting, but for the rest... Well, each person is different, but it doesn't seem to me that the adaptation will be easy. In short, my impression is that Gutenberg makes things more difficult, but it can achieve more attractive results.
How have users received Gutenberg?
From what I've read online (and my own impressions) the reception has been rather cold and even angry on many occasions. Just look at the flood of negative reviews on the WordPress forum . I read a couple:
Gutenberg's great name is destroyed by WordPress
This is by far the worst mistake WordPress has ever made
These are not isolated opinions, as you will see, in fact, I have student database two that did not contain swear words or curse words, hehe. The WordPress community is clamoring for at least the option to return to the old editor. And I know how to do it, but let me tell you in the next post
So, this weekend has left me with many more questions than answers: Will Gutenberg be the definitive WordPress editor or will it listen to users' anger and will we see changes in the near future? Will it make visual layout plugins like Visual Composer obsolete? How the hell will Ant Man get out of the Quantum Realm? We'll find out in a few months.
