The first thing you need to do is activate and install the plugin. For more details, see our step-by-step guide on how to install a WordPress plugin .
After activation, you will have a new menu item called “Members” in your WordPress administration area.
Go to Members ” Roles and click the user role you want to edit.
This will take you to a screen where you can fully customize the features for that role.
To remove a permission for the role, check the “Deny” box. To add a new permission, check the “Grant” box.
Here we check the box “Deny” for the user function Delete Posts.

If you uncheck a box for an available role, the user does not have that capability.

The changes you make automatically apply to all existing users with this role and to any new users who are assigned the role.
How to Create Custom User Roles in WordPress
Additionally, WordPress allows you to create completely custom user roles with unique features.
To do this, use the same plugin as above.
Simply navigate to Members » Add New Role and give your new role a name.
For example, you can create a developer role that you can assign to a WordPress developer with specific permissions.
The left column contains different sections with lists of available features. We select the Appearance tab and then add features for editing, installing and updating themes.
In this example, the Author role is edited, but you can choose the role that best suits your needs.
