foreign goods purchased abroad, Izvestia has learned. Today it is €1,000 and 31 kg. After eliminating this threshold, it was proposed to impose a single duty on products from abroad, the amount of which will be about 5%.
The issue is already being discussed in the Eurasian Economic Commission. Such a step will symmetrically increase the cost of foreign products, sales will decrease by a third, retail representatives warn. About the prospects of cross-border online trade and the arguments of the main players - in the material of Izvestia.
Reset threshold
At the end of 2023, the heads bosnia and herzegovina whatsapp number
database of state of the EAEU member states approved and sent for ratification amendments to the Customs Code that concern cross-border trade. For example, a new term appeared in the union - "e-commerce goods purchased by individuals." These changes gave the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) the right to completely refuse to establish a standard for duty-free import of such goods. This was stated in a letter from Ozon to the aide to the President of the Russian Federation Maxim Oreshkin (Izvestia has a copy). The publication sent a request to his representative.
Now people can order online and receive from abroad goods worth up to €1,000 and weighing up to 31 kg; above this limit, they will have to pay an additional 15% of the cost of the product.
has already begun to discuss the abandonment of the duty-free import threshold, the marketplace said in a letter. The corresponding draft resolution of the EEC Council has been prepared and sent to countries: the authorities are not only zeroing out the free import standards, but also setting a single duty rate at 5%, Ozon emphasizes.
This will affect 34 million Russian citizens - this is how the company estimated the number of buyers of cross-border goods. Prices for them will increase by 5%, plus the purchase process will become much more complicated - after each separate procedure, the company is sure. As a result, up to 80% of buyers will refuse to buy goods under this model. This is not the end of the negative effects: sales on the sites will fall by a third.
“This will cause significant financial damage to Russian marketplaces: in other EAEU countries there are no companies comparable in scale of activity,” Ozon is sure.
The EEC told Izvestia that "the positions of the union member states on the issue of introducing a duty-free threshold are still being formed." As soon as the countries present their positions, the platform will begin discussing them.
Saturate the market
The abolition of the threshold will undoubtedly have an impact on Russian consumers, Ozon believes.
"Many people may refuse to buy if, taking into account the duty, the cost of the desired product is higher than they can afford. Therefore, we are counting on a balanced decision by regulators on this issue," the company added to Izvestia. The marketplace supports maintaining the threshold of €1,000.
The reasons for introducing the €1,000 duty-free threshold have not lost their relevance, Yandex Market noted. The current limit allows buyers with low incomes to purchase goods at affordable prices, they added.
Taking into account the innovations, the platform
